His first breakthrough came in 2003, when he was spotted by MTV scouts and performed on the network’s South Pacific live series “Rules of the Road.” A three-month adventure in the South Pacific, followed by an appearance in the seventh season of Real World/Rules of the Road Challenge, provided him with resources to pay off his college debt and further cemented his decision to pursue a full-time job.
In 2007, he moved to Los Angeles to further his acting career. Before joining the Echo Theatre Company, he studied under director and acting teacher Chris Fields. Subsequently, numerous cameos appeared in various TV series and TV movies, including Nip/Tuck, Veronica Mars, Grey’s Anatomy, Ghost Whisperer, Privileged, Without Trace, and Cold Case, among others. Giuntoli also considered the lead role in the re-release of the Superman film Iron Man, but was ultimately defeated by British actor Henry Cavill.
His biggest role on a TV show to date is the “Grimm” series, which premiered in October 2011 and ran for six seasons and 123 episodes until March 31, 2017. He plays the lead role of Detective Nick Burkhardt, who hunts creatures in Detective Green. In addition to his work on Green, Giuntoli was also featured in the 2012 films Caroline and Jackie Chan. In 13 Hours, directed by Michael Bay, he played the role of DS agent Scott Wickland. 2016, he played the lead role of David in the comedy film Buddymoon.
He is currently starring in the ABC series A Million Little Things, which premieres on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 10pm.
Giuntoli returned to St. Louis after graduating from college. His heart, however, was to be an entertainer, not a career in finance, something his family has long recognized as he has always enjoyed making people laugh since he was a child. After reconnecting with his high school theater teacher, he began taking acting classes locally.

Giuntoli admits he’s not as athletic as boys. “Until I was a sophomore in high school, I was three feet shorter than I am now,” he said, saying his head remained the same. “I’m a clumsy little guy. After graduating from St. Louis University high school in 1998, he attended Indiana University in Bloomington and received a BA in International Business and Finance in 2002.
