“The best series in history”: fans are jubilant over The Rings of Power
After long years of waiting, it was this Friday, September 1, 2022 that Amazon Prime Video released episodes 1 and 2 of season 1 of Rings of Power (VO), the first series adapted from the Lord of the Rings universe. And if we trust the first reviews and reactions on Twitter, the adventures of Elrond, Isildur, Galadriel or even Celebrimbor and Prince Durin IV are already fascinating fans.
Just two weeks after the start ofHouse of the Dragon – the Game of Thrones spin-off, on HBO (USA) and OCS (France), it ‘s Rings Of Power – the series adapted from the Lord of the Rings universe which has just started on Prime Video , the streaming platform from Amazon.
And where the adventures of Rhaenyra and Daemon, the ancestors of Daenerys, immediately won over viewers with audience records among our American neighbors, the SDA prequel seems in turn to fascinate the public.
The rings of power is already validated by the public
As we know, Prime Vidéo has pulled out the checkbook to give life to the most beautiful heroic fantasy series possible and make people forget the absences of some cult characters from this universe such as Frodo, Aragorn or even Legolas (we are talking about a budget of $465 million for Season 1). A mind-blowing and colossal investment, but considered useful as the work of the creative team is already praised by everyone.
Despite the fear of hardcore fans of Tolkien’s work to see the platform attacking such a vast universe and the first racist / misogynist criticisms concerning the presence of certain heroes of color or of the female sex swung upstream of the implementation line, these are the compliments that are surging on social networks today.
” I finished the first episode of Rings Of Power and what a visual slap. The story takes its time to develop well as well as to introduce us to the characters of the series and the soundtrack is incredible, a magnificent first episode ” can -we thus read on Twitter, just like “ A madness the episodes, get ready for the best series in history ”, “ I have never taken such a visual and musical slap for a series! ” or even again, “ The series is incredible, you don’t realize all the wonderful details in the sets that make me vibrate with happiness, for the followers of the silmarillion, Rings Of Power is full of small elements that make me cry with emotions…“.
HBO threatened by Prime Video?
Regardless, the first two episodes of Rings of Power offered enough promise this week for an ever more epic sequel that fans are already excited for the next installments. A deserved success as the task was not easy to accomplish, but which does not seem to please … HBO.
The channel has just announced it on its networks, it has uploaded episode 1 of House of the Dragon for free on YouTube in order to remind that it was the queen of series of the genre and to try to attract new viewers. Dragons vs Orcs, let the battle begin!
As a reminder, the story of The Rings of Power takes place almost 7000 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings and covers the Second Age of Middle Earth. We thus follow the creation of the famous rings, the fall of relations between Elves and Men, but also… the rise of Sauron.
The Rings of Power: Season 2 won’t be available for a VERY long time!
The Rings of Power, the series from the Lord of the Rings universe, ended on Amazon Prime Video with episode 8, posted this Friday, October 14, 2022. Fans are obviously already waiting for season 2 of the adventures of Galadriel, Elrond, Arondir and the others… but we will have to wait. Very long even if we believe one of the showrunners of the series. We are already crying… This article does NOT contain spoilers for the end of season 1.
It was one of the most anticipated series of the end of 2022 (with House of the Dragon of course): The Rings of Power was a hit on Amazon Prime Video. The series which cost a real fortune ( it is number 1 of the most expensive series in history ) has not always been unanimous with Internet users but it still amazed us. Season 1 was only composed of 8 episodes and the wait will therefore be in order for the sequel.
Filming for season 2 has started with a change
Let’s start with some good news: season 2 is already filming. The info was confirmed by Amazon Prime Video on October 7, 2022, but there will be a little change. If season 1 was shot in New Zealand, both in natural settings and in the studio in Auckland, the rest of the series will move: it will be shot largely in the United Kingdom . Some scenes should also be shot in New Zealand. The reason for this choice? Reduce pharaminous production costs. With an average of 58 million dollars per episode in season 1, we understand that they want to save money …
No release for a very long time
The problem is that to see the episodes, you will most certainly have to wait a long time. Patrick McKay, co-showrunner, is not very optimistic for a quick return of the series on Prime Video. In an interview given to The Hollywood Reporter, he explained that it would be necessary to wait ” another two years ” before the sequel. At issue in this long wait? The filming and post-production time of the series. An announcement which will frustrate some impatient people but which is ultimately not so dramatic. In any case, this proves that Amazon does not want to rush the episodes by putting pressure on the writers and the film crews to hurry to shoot. You just have to be patient…
The Rings of Power season 2: 6 fan theories (more or less credible) about the sequel
Season 1 of The Rings of Power has ended on Amazon Prime Video but good news, the series adapted from the Lord of the Rings universe will be back for a season 2. But what will happen after the revelation of Sauron’s identity? What awaits Galadriel in the sequel? Here are 6 fan theories. Warning, this article contains spoilers for the end of season 1.
Throughout the broadcast of the Rings of Power , fans have chained theories whether on the identity of the Stranger or on the link between Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) and Sauron . And they weren’t totally wrong! As expected, Halbrand was indeed the Dark Lord and the creators defended this choice which caused a lot of talk on social networks.
To discover season 2 of the Rings of power , it will however be necessary to wait a moment. If the filming has officially started for a few days, the showrunners have already warned that the sequel should not arrive before 2024 on our screens. Yes, it’s long but the fans of the series already have ideas for the sequel. Here are the most popular theories on the web.
1. Sauron will face Adar
Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) has discovered Halbrand’s true identity and has rejected the claim to rule alongside Sauron over Middle-earth. At the end of the episode, Sauron/Halbrand left Eregion… to go to Mordor. The big bad guy’s final plan watching Mount Doom erupt makes it clear that he’s going to attempt to take over the territory and therefore confront Adar (Joseph Mawle). We still remind you that Adar thinks he killed Sauron. The reunion promises to be nice…
2. Isildur is not dead
In episode 7, the army of Numenor was struggling to recover from the eruption of Mount Doom which had more than one consequence on the characters. Especially for Isildur (Maxim Baldry) who was left for dead while saving Queen Miriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). Except Lord of the Rings fans know Isildur can’t be dead since he’s instrumental in the war against Sauron. So we bet that Isildur will be back and that he will struggle in Mordor in season 2.
3. Theo will end up allying himself with Sauron
Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi) have escaped the eruption and are on their way to Pelargir. But one theory suggests that Theo might not be so nice. On Reddit, a user is convinced that he will become the Witch King of Angmar, a major ally of Sauron.
4. Miriel will be dethroned
This theory does not come out of nowhere and is directly inspired by the books of JRR Tolkien. In the writings of the famous author, after the death of her father which takes place at the end of season 1 of the Rings of power, Miriel does not actually become queen. Instead, Pharazôn (Trystan Gravelle) becomes the leader of Numenor. We imagine that the series is heading in the same direction.
5. A new couple to come
What if we were entitled to a new love story in the sequel to the Rings of Power ? Some are already convinced of a rapprochement: that of Miriel and Elendil (Lloyd Owen). It must be said that the two characters have a great chemistry and proved it in episodes 7 and 8. A little love never hurts!
6. The Stranger is not Gandalf
In the finale, we got confirmation that the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) is a wizard. Everything seems to indicate that it is in fact Gandalf but we want to believe that the series will surprise us. However, we say that the series has still given many (many) clues that point to the wizard present in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit . To be continued…
And you, what are your theories on the Rings of Power sequel ? Do not hesitate to tell us on social networks. Season 2 of the series is not expected to arrive until 2024 on Prime Video . Patience is therefore required before discovering what awaits us in the rest of the series!
